Wonderful Meatloaf with Sauce

From Home Ec cookbook, p 69


2 slices bread

1 cup milk

1 1/2 lbs. ground beef

2 eggs, beaten

1/4 cup minced onion

1 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. sage

1/8 tsp. pepper

1 small can mushroom soup (you could use celery)


Soak bread in milk; mix to break bread into small particles.  

Add other ingredients and mix thoroughly.  


Shape into loaf and spread with mixture of


3 T brown sugar

1/4 cup catsup

1/4 tsp. nutmeg

1 tsp. dry mustard.


Bake 1 hour at 350.



I also use other meatloaf recipes but this is the sauce I always use.  You can vary the ingredients (for example: regular mustard for dry) and just mix them in the measuring cup.  


I usually bake the meatloaf about 40 minutes, then carefully pour off any grease, and then pour this topping over it so you get less grease and more sauce flavor.
